For one, it's a terrible, terrible place to be. And two, your seeming need to find someone to blame will, assuming you stick to your current mode of thinking, cause you to take a giant steaming dump on your self-esteem which will, according to what research in psychology tells us, do the exact opposite of helping you. Nevertheless, given how utterly lacking you are in any notion of empathy, ending up as a self-loathing masochist might be the only way for you to come to understand the astounding depths of your ignorance concerning human psychology. Yeah, and the mechanism to avoid corruption is not to vote for politicians who either are corrupt or allow for measures that enable corruption. It's really simple. Therefore, if there still is corruption, it means you must really like it

I have to vote in the same election as millions of other voters... but no one else gets to vote on whether I stuff Doritos down my throat.

        • And as polls have consistently shown, the nation is divided between those who hate corruption and those who are like, "Yeah! Love me some corrupt politicians!"

But you live in a country in which more than half of the population is OK with corruption.

Or all the candidates are corrupt. Your analogy doesn't make sense. It's not like I have to choose between eating a box of Twinkies and eating a box of Oreos.

              • So now voters are not responsible for who the candidates are?

                  • The source of corruption is representative oligarchy.

If power were exerted by the people, rather than bulk-delegated to officials, there would be much less corruption.

Actually it'd be much simpler to just make the laws much more lenient. Hey presto! It's not corruption any more. That's just one of the many, many wonderful ways that this isn't like losing weight. At all.

                        • I mean, I'd love there to be a legal way to change one's weight, just like you can change your name. However it's got a few niggling problems that would stop it being effective.

No, you can't, unless you think that'll change whether being seriously overweight leads to medical complications.
