Next Game of Thrones book The Winds of Winter won't be out until 2016
At what point did spoiler tags disappear from this thread? Some of us haven't completed all the books yet, and some people won't have started them yet. Show some ****ing manners dickwads!

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
EDIT: Joke mean-spirited and not actually funny, so out it goes.
I guess the book has some amount of charm just as a sort of easy-read break from history books I have to think about. It's hard to read about the politics of the Holy Roman Empire when you're rocking down a fussy baby. GOT is like one of those books you take on airplanes, at least by comparison. Also, I'm sorry, but it is kind of funny sometimes how he manages to hit the fantasy cliche exactly every single time.
Based on the recent statement made by publisher Jane Johnson from HarperCollins in her interview with The Guardian, the next installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" is not on their schedule of 2015 releases.
It was probably just an accident but very briefly one of GRRM's publishers put The Winds of Winter up on their publishing schedule for late 2015 before quickly taking it down. In his Not A Blog GRRM repeated that there is no firm publication date until the whole thing is signed, sealed, and delivered as he doesn't want to upset fans if the time table slips (which has repeatedly happened in the past). Still, this may be a good sign that good progress is being made on the book.
The fantasy cliche he uses which bugs me the most is how technology gets stalled for an unreasonably long period of time. Star Wars does the same thing. Thousands of years go by but nothing new is ever invented, not much seems to change, and it is the same families with the same lands, in the same castles give or take a few minor details.
I don't know where this belief in the naturalness of scientific progress comes from. We have really only observed this paradigm in a small fraction of human history.

Would you agree that Star Wars having a 50,000 year long time line where not much changes despite it being a super advanced high tech space traveling culture is rather far fetched?
Technology tends to be self catalizing so the more you accumulate the faster people recombine it to create new things.

I have seen people argue the SW universe has reached a technological saturation point.
