Regarding the relevancy of productivity, unit labor productivity is a measure for efficiency of wealth generation. Wealth generation is your base for taxation. IF Greece wants to spend more they need to increase efficiency (since they already work long hours). However, increases in efficiency were held back by labor unions and elected politicians did not have the incentive to enact proper legislation (cheap loans were availble under the umbrella of the Euro), so Greece got into serious problems in 2009.

I still do not get what your major comprehension malfunction is with that fact.
there's a lot you don't get, frankly. i see you've changed your argument, which is good because the old one was very poor. but just to be clear, is your point now that greece's problems stem from its below average labour productivity?

    • The hard reality is Greece was already $20 billion short and the drooling idiot in charge has announced he will spend an additional $20 billion so that leave him $40 billion sort and default certain if he doesn't blackmail the rest of Europe our of $40 billion.

The hard truth is international finance doesn't care who wins elections, they still expect to get paid on time and in full, if that doesn't happen then things get ugly. When the Greeks default, I say when and not if because 4he actions of the new government make default a certainity, then they are out of the Euro.

      • The absolute best they can hope for is that the EU agrees to extend their existing loans, which are already lost money, in exchange for Greece willingly leaving the Euro. Other wise they will get forced out and it will get far uglier.

As indeed they are. They voted for an endless stream of bad governments with bad government policies and now it is time to pay the piper. They are fools living in a fool's paradise and I for one will laugh as their economy burns. The dumb ****s brought it on themselves and they deserve it.

They have been paying the piper for 5 years and current forecasts don't give a time frame when they will stop paying the piper.

For a country 5 years is a long time and 10 years is forever.

            • They haven't enacted the reforms they actually need to dig themselves out, which is adopt a truly market economy.

Greece is like a heroin addict going through withdrawal, and shooting up again after getting 90% clean.

nah, our modern world should continue to use an antiquated system that produces inferior results

California has never received a bailout nor has it ever lacked the ability to pay. What it did have was **** stain Republicans who threw a temper tantrum and declared they would prevent the government from functioning unless everyone gave them what they want. Luckily, vothers saw their terrorism and promptly voted virtually every Republican out of office.

With the Republicans gone all the problems were easily solved by reasonable people. The moral of the story being eliminate all the Republicans and everything works well.

                        • Or just get rid of the two party system. With only two groups either one can easily throw a temper tantrum and they think they have a shot of getting what they want.

It would certainly be a big step in the right direction.

When you're talking about the government policies of a democratic state, it's reasonable to assign collective responsibility.

                              • Are they really democratic though? I'm not familiar with how they're organized. The US, for instance, is a representative republic and the UK is a parliamentary system. Sure there are aspects of democracy in both systems, but some have more of a voice than others in both systems.
