I see the usual suspects are clueless again as to why this is not beneficial to the US in the longer term.

    All is well in Apolytonia.

The other side is beheading people and mutilating them. We are...putting them in boxes.

There's a difference in scale here.
Yeah. I'd prefer a difference in side, not a difference in scale.

If Iraq were a thriving democracy you wouldn't be complaining. The interrogation tactics we used worked, but you complain. We invaded the wrong country but we are winning the war on terror.

ISIS surely is very thankful for your war on terror

They certainly are thankful that we pulled out of Iraq and left them lots of toys.

I am sure they are thankful for both ... deposing their biggest obstacle to gain power, as well as for leaving at a good time for thm to gain control over a portion of the land.

I guess the interesting question is if it had made a difference if it hadn´t been Obama who (upon the will of the majority of the american public) withdrew the troops from Iraq ... or if it had been another (possibly republican) president a few years later (perhaps not)

Obama is responsible for his actions. 'The people wanted it' is no excuse. He's expected to lead. That said, we couldn't stay forever. But my concern is why didn't they know this would happen.

I agree ... and I asked myself the question in both cases ... the invasion of iraq, as well as the withdrawal of the US troops out of iraq.
Both seemed to be the actions of rather myopic leaderships

On another note, I've been punched in the face, but I don't tell people how to box.

Because your interrogation techniques were so efficient ?
Because the hole world told you so ?

I'm sure in your fantasy world we torture brown people for fun. It makes a lot more sense that enhanced tactics were used when normal tactics failed.
