  • Another day another black man shot by police

Rumain Brisbon, an unarmed black father of four, was shot to death in Arizona Tuesday when a police officer apparently mistook his bottle of pills for a gun.
About 100 protestors marched to police headquarters in Phoenix Thursday, demanding the department release the name of the officer who shot Brisbon. A spokesperson reportedlydefended the shooting, saying "This one went bad from the standpoint of how it ended, but the officer was doing exactly what we want him to do."
The official police story has already been challenged by witnesses, the Arizona Republic reports.
According to police, a citizen reported a drug deal in a black SUV around 6 p.m. They went to investigate the car, where they saw Brisbon, taking something out of the trunk. When they told him to put his hands up, cops say, he put his hands in his waistband prompting the officer to pull out his gun. Then, the cops say, Brisbon tried to flee and the officer chased him down.
"During the struggle, Brisbon put his left hand in his pocket and the officer grabbed onto the suspect's hand, while repeatedly telling the suspect to keep his hand in his pocket," [police spokesperson Sgt. Trent Crump] said. "The officer believed he felt the handle of a gun while holding the suspect's hand in his pocket."
A woman inside an apartment opened a door at that moment, and the officer and Brisbon tumbled inside, Crump said. Two children, ages 9 and 2, were in a back bedroom, he said.
The officer could no longer keep a grip on Brisbon's hand and, because he feared that the suspect had a gun in his pocket, fired two shots, Crump said.
A witness told the Arizona Republic he didn't see the officer try to talk to Brison before the confrontation began and an attorney for the family told the paper, "There are numerous witnesses that will challenge the police officer's account of what transpired."
Brison died on the scene. His "gun" turned out to be a bottle of oxycodone pills.

In America, a cop or white man in a stand your ground state can get away with murder if they claim they felt threatened at any point. America ****ing sucks.

And if you don't think cops are fundamentally crooked, deleting evidence off an ipad?

It would have been easier to shoot the suspect, but luckily he was latino, I guess.

It is apparent from the video that at least one of the officers saw Frasier. The word “camera!” can be heard on tape shortly after Jones punches Flores.Frasier said, officers on scene threatened him with arrest, demanded he turn over all photos and videotape to them and then seized his tablet over his objections.
“When he took it, I said, ‘Hey! You can’t do that. You need a warrant for that!’ and he said, ‘What program did you take the video with? Where is that?’” Frasier said.
He said police ignored his objections and dug through his personal photos without obtaining a court order.
“The first officer that comes up to ask me about my witness statement brings me to the police car and says we could do this the easy way or we could do this the hard way,” Fraser said. “It was taken as ‘You can either cooperate and give us what we want or we’re going to incarcerate you.’”
Although official police reports mentioned an officer thought Frasier took video, there is nothing written about taking, searching or possessing his tablet. That’s something Frasier swears occurred.
By the time the officer returned his tablet, Frasier said, the video file was gone.
“I couldn’t believe it. My heart dropped. I know I just shot that video, like it’s not on there now?” Frasier said.
After Frasier got home, he said he synched his tablet with his electronic cloud. Within a few moments, the video file reappeared.
Frasier said it’s “possible” both he and the police officer who looked through his tablet “missed seeing” the clip inside his files.
However, Frasier said he suspects, in reality, the clip was deleted either with intention or by mistake.
Frasier recorded the incident on his Samsung tablet.

“It was very well known that the video was shot and things were done on the video that shouldn’t be leaked out, that it would be bad for the reputations of the police officers,” Frasier said.
Murphy pointed out that records showed Frasier filled out a report at the arrest scene and during that time he didn’t report seeing officers do anything inappropriate.
Frasier said he did sign a witness statement, but did so only under “duress.”
“It was survival mode. It was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to make it out of here. Not going to go to jail today for something I didn’t have anything to do with,’” Frasier said.
Frasier said his friends encouraged him to delete the clip for good after they realized what he had captured, suspecting Denver Police might not take too kindly to him turning the videotape over to either the media or defense attorneys.
He said he has faith that police commanders will do the right thing and target their next investigation toward cleaning up what appears to him to be a group of officers using excessive force.

And before HC and Reg reply, I agree with them, the justice system works as intended in these cases - our nation was founded on the principles of white men owning black people while espousing liberty and freedom for themselves, the merchant class. There's just a spotlight on it now.

Why are these suspects always so confrontational? White guys who go "am I free to go" an "am I under arrest" are annoying, but sticking your hand in a pocket or engaging in fisticuffs with a ****ing cop is borderline suicidal behavior.

Yup. Get ****ed. Glad you care more about riots than police being ****ing awful at what they do. In fact it's really telling that you'd automatically leap to the response to injustice being property destruction as YOUR PRIMARY CONCERN.

Good thing I don't care about dead cops any longer otherwise I might feel bad. They died meaningless deaths and should only be remembered for that explicit purpose.

Putting your hands up is suicidal behavior around cops if you're black. You also have a fundamental misunderstanding of the propensity for police to lie to justify excessive force and prosecution.

I wish our cops in our Police State had the rights to shoot drug dealers on sight, because they "feel threatened", like in a Bastion of Democracy.

I wish I could reply to this with "I bet they shoot your negroes too" in classic Russian propaganda fashion but here we are in reality.

America as this iconic bastion of freedom is bull****.
