With GPU's you will be gaming, using PC's for other purposes - the miner will be making you money without distractions, likely at a much faster rate than a GPU.

i don't know much about it, but i do remember seeing a BBC article a few months back on the subject. this suggests to me that it's so well known as not to be worth it, unless you have some serious equipment, but i could be wrong.

I have the funds available for the initial hardware costs. This is what makes this such an appealing idea.

I still would like to familiarize myself with the process using my current hardware so that I could more easily transition to that kind of specialized hardware. I would do it with the goal of building a farm... but certainly not something of that scale.
