Dale and Solver claimed they would be far more strict as moderators (they were, even banning people who never broke the rules because they thought they might break the rules at some future date) and claimed the reason fewer people were posting at poly was because the place was just too rude and uncooth. He basically only got a few misfits who relocated there mostly because they were upset with Asher, a few folks who posted both there and at poly, and a handful of people brought from other sites.

I might get to your points later, Ken, but lemme just say: Asher is possibly the one person on this site least entitled to complain about others going "LA LA LA YOUR IDEAS ARE DUMB AND WRONG AND I'M GOING TO BE A DICK ABOUT IT."

Okay. This merits a much more in-depth discussion, but briefly:

        1. The problems facing American education are rooted in poverty. Reformers are forever promising revolutionary new "scientific" ways to teach. Science, science, science--like that runty pig from Animal Farm. They're all, as the saying goes, rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Plenty of students prosper under any educational regime, because they come from families that push them to succeed, give them the attention they need, supplement it with extracurriculars, etc. The ones who do not, are not failing because we're not doing the stuff they do in five experimental classrooms in South Korea. The endless reforms not only fail to help, they harm, because the constant changes in standards and expectations make it impossible for teachers to catch up and adapt to one set of reforms before a different set replaces it.

        2. It's a board, Jim. You write or draw on it, or project pictures. The Smartboard does not add any significant features to that basic functionality.

As Wiglaf wisely and succinctly put it,

Regardless of what you think about smartboards, claiming THAT thread was the reason Asher left the site is ridiculous. He was posting frequently up until February of this year. That thread was in October of 2013. Basically, get over yourselves.

There's a season for all things. House gloating is one of them.

did he ever show pics of everything when it was finished?

I only recall seeing the "in progress" pics

I paid Asher not to run anyone else off the site. So far it's looking like a bad investment since theres no one (runoffable) to run off the site
