Russia is demanding that Bulgaria try harder to prevent vandalism of Soviet monuments, after yet another monument to Soviet troops in Sofia was spray-painted, ITAR-Tass reported.

Russia is demanding that Bulgaria try harder to prevent vandalism of Soviet monuments, after yet another monument to Soviet troops in Sofia was spray-painted, ITAR-Tass reported.

The Russian Embassy in Bulgaria has issued a note demanding that its former Soviet-era ally clean up the monument in Sofia's Lozenets district, identify and punish those responsible, and take "exhaustive measures" to prevent similar attacks in the future, the news agency reported Monday.

The monument was spray-painted on the eve of the Bulgarian Socialist Party's celebration of its 123rd anniversary, the Sofia-based Novinite news agency reported.

The vandalism was the latest in a series of similar recent incidents in Bulgaria — each drawing angry criticism from Moscow.

Early this year, unknown artists painted another monument to Soviet troops in Sofia in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

In August last year, a Soviet army monument in Sofia was painted pink in an "artistic apology" for Bulgaria's support of Soviet troops who suppressed Czechoslovakia's Prague Spring revolt against Moscow-based communist rulers.

Superman fought Hitler and deserves a war monument

I like how Hitler's hat is flying off at a radically different trajectory than his body. Also that Hitler just looks like he was caught masturbating, Superman is sternly disapproving, and neither one is paying the slightest bit of attention to Tojo, who resembles a goblin.

Asians are the invisible minority. Not even Superman acknowledges them.

The original one with Superman and the other American superheroes was very well done. I think it was very interesting. I look at it as an art installation.

This recent red paint thing is just stupid. No interesting message, no art, nothing. It is probably already cleaned up.

I don't think it's a big deal. Some people don't like Russia so they "express" themselves in such a way. It is not the best way to express disagreement with Russian foreign policy but it is what it is.

You should not take it so personally. If Bulgarians as a whole didn't like Russia those monuments would have been removed. As you can see they are still here and we are cleaning them up when somebody tries to use them as a canvas.

I recently watched the Superman red son comic. Enjoyed it.

I went to a Russian language school from first grade to eight grade. I was fluent in Russian and was very influenced by Russian culture. Half of my classmates had at least one Russian parent. I like Russia and Russian culture but now I get genuinely sad when I see what is happening in Russia in recent years.

I think you are missing out great opportunities as a nation by looking constantly back in time and focusing on things like pride, fear and anger.

I hate tribalism. I am not looking to be proud of anything that is attributed to my ancestors or people from my tribe. I don't like it when people look back and seek for reasons to be proud or look for revenge. It is totally unproductive, wasteful and can only do harm.

Ok, I do realize the people who did this were neo-nazis (every country has sych idiots) and that most of the Bulgarians do not support such things.
But, what amazes me is your words about how amazing and interesting such kind of desecration could be as an installation.
Why do you think I have a monument from Tallinn on my avatar?

Because that is an egregor (yes, I know this word doesn't probably exist in English, but at least Paiktis will be able to understand me).

For me, anyone who fought vs. nazism (not to mention paid with his life in that struggle) are saints. All of them. Regardless of their nationality, be them Russians, Ukrainians, British, Americans, French, Canadians, Greeks, Poles, Serbs, Australians, New Zealanders, Germans, the list can go forever. All of them are heroes. ALL OF THEM. They are the people who stopped the greatest evil humanity ever faced - an absolutely inhuman ideology. And when anyone desecrates their memory, the memory of their feat of arms, I want to suffocate the bastard with my own hands.
Every human being should have an egregor, which should be protected by all means. Otherwise, as Martin Luther King have said (I go from my memory): "A man who didn't find in his life anything worthy to die for, doesn't deserve to live".
