I'm pretending not to be amused by this. Actually pretty funny.

      • Look, reg. What did I say about Ohio? Did I say that folks in Ohio should panic about it? No. Did I say folks in Ohio should keep an eye on this to see if any actual cases turn up? Absolutely.

I'm not sure why monitoring something is a sign of fear. It's not. The only way to make good decisions is to be informed as to what is actually going on. Right now - there's no actual confirmed cases in Ohio. But - they need to start tracking down all her contacts, including ones in Ohio. Thus, it makes sense for folks in Ohio to be more concerned about this than yesterday.

For all the hue and cry over me being 'panicky', what exactly, aside from limiting contacts have I recommended that people do? Don't take unnecessary flights to hot areas. Limiting contacts at this point is a prudent step, given the possibility of ebola transmission in this area.

That's basically the only thing different I've done, and I actually stopped doing that last weekend. So, how exactly am I panicking? I don't see it. I went back to that again, after Monday morning, and being informed of a second case of transmission.

I will probably end up doing nothing more than limiting contacts and unnecessary travel, for like, another 10 days after the 13th, so the 23rd.

Please tell me Dr. Guynemer exactly how limiting unnecessary travel and contacts is going to break anything.

Question, Dauphin, if it were in London and not Texas, do you think my response would be different?

          • You would probably still have apocalypse porn views. Beyond that I don't know or care to speculate.

It's been made clear you respond differently when it is an African country.

Hahaha. So, you admit that I'd respond differently if it were in London rather than in Texas. Thank you, Dauphin.

It's been made clear you respond differently when it is an African country.
Indeed. I live here. It's rational for me to respond differently when it's in Texas rather than say Liberia.

I'm actually using the time to pound away at work stuff. So I'm not sure how 'panicky' it is to make money busting ass.

I may as well have asked you the same question. What odds would you have given me in March for multiple Ebola transmissions in America? I'll wager the same number you're quoting at me now.

Would a rational person conclude that in a flight where 152 people were exposed coming into Dallas, what percentage of those people will turn up in Austin, over say, the next week or so?

You're a smart guy. Given average travel patterns - this is something that can be simulated. Out of how many runs will you see a hit in Austin?

The risk is non-zero. That is my point. The question is what exactly is the risk? If we assume that say, 1/100 contacts actually contract ebola (a conservative estimate), and the odds are say, 5 percent of those flying into Dallas show up in Austin, what are the odds of one case here?

About 5 ten thousandths of a percent.

                    • “Solon Middle School and Parkside Elementary School will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, October 16, as a precaution. We learned today that an SMS staff member traveled home from Dallas on Frontier Airlines Tuesday on a different flight, but perhaps the same aircraft, as the Texas nurse with Ebola.

This circumstance came to light late in the day and we have been working since then to get as much information as possible from public health authorities. Although we believe what the science community and public health officials are telling us about the low risk of possible transmission of the virus through indirect contact, we are nonetheless taking the unusual step of closing the dual school building for Thursday so that we can have the schools cleaned and disinfected.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District confirmed that it was made aware that a teacher who works at Cranwood School may have come into contact with a person diagnosed with Ebola virus. City Health Officials have assured officials that students, staff, and families were not at risk, but CMSD has taken several precautions to ease any concerns about safety at the school. Overnight, the school is being cleaned with a bleach-based cleaning solution in accordance with the guidelines provided by the CDC.

Nah, I'll just point out that if he'd followed a normal routine instead of hiding out like some bizarre fugitive he probably wouldn't have caught it in the first place. The God of the old testament ****ing hates cowards.

As far as I'm concerned, the part that sucks the most. Once again, humans screw over everything.
