It's a pity that Hamas keeps playing into their hands, then.

The long term strategic goal of Israel is the survival, well-being and happiness of its citizens. Would that Hamas were so high minded.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

You keep repeating the same unsubstantiated talking points.

Back your discourse with facts. Post here the latest Israeli "peace offer" and tell us why it's reasonable.

They've come up with an excellent solution; you continually increase the cost of war by continually taking more and more land. The longer the Palestinians reject peace the less they're going to have left for a state of their own. It puts real pressure on them when there is no real other way to put pressure on them. I find it extremely just.

This is bull****. Israel is surrounded by larger and richer countries who can't remain behind for very long. They can't resist forever, the only possible solution is a reasonable peace.

      • FAA tells US airlines not to fly to Tel Aviv

        By JOAN LOWY
        Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is telling U.S. airlines they are prohibited from flying to the Tel Aviv airport in Israel after a Hamas rocket exploded nearby.

The FAA said in a statement that the ban on flights is for 24 hours beginning at 12:15 p.m. EST on Tuesday.

The statement said the rocket strike landed about one mile from Ben Gurion International Airport Tuesday morning.

The notice only applies to U.S. airlines since the FAA has no authority over carriers from other nations.

The agency said it will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation, and that updated instructions will be provided to U.S. airlines "as soon as conditions permit, but no later than 24 hours" from the time the directive went into force.

Empty formulation that does not preclude anything I said.

Thank you for reminding us that this isn't simply big bad ol' Israel beating up on the little Palestinians.

                Nope you moron.

I have a point in this thread. My point is that Israel has stolen territory and is stealing more by the day, and that this is the root cause for the conflict.

No one has provided any counter-factual to this - except for empty, simplistic statements.

Oerdin: "Palestinians need to stop fire rockets". Then what? Do they get back their stolen olive plantations? What's the plan for aquifer management? Refugees?

You: "Israel want its people to be happy bla bla bla" OK sure. Now in concrete terms how are they going about it? By stealing land. The statement "Israel want its people to be happy" doesn't refute at all the fact that it is stealing land.

An intent - explicit or implicit - is not a refutation of an empirical fact. I used to think that people were disingenuous, but my experience teaching philosophy is that most people really struggle with the most basic rules of reasoning.

Well yes. As a pacifist, I'm concerned by the well being of everyone involved. Peace is the only security Israel can get.

How is that different form most of the other nations on this planet? Russia annexed Crimea. China, Korea, and Japan are pressing claims on islands, Argentina wants the Falklands, Spain wants Gibraltar. Even Canada and Denmark squabble over who has sovereignty over vast stretches of northern ocean. A nation striving to be the dominant regional power? Oh heavens, what is this world coming to?

Israel has done pretty damn good in fulfilling its obligations to its citizens, which should be the goal of all countries but so often isn't.

And then what? I oppose imperialism in general.

And also at comparing the intensity of land disputes between Canada and Denmark with the Palestinian conquest.

Being a pacifist means that a State fulfills its obligations through long term peace.

If I were an Israeli citizen, I would be tremendously opposed to my countries' policies, which are a mix-mash of militaro-industrial corruption and imperialism that have caused the death of not only Palestinians, but Israelis.
