Reason 2 is that Fatah wishes Hamas to recognize Israel's right to exist to enable peace talks as a condition for unity government. Hamas has shown some openness to the idea, but they're bartering hard for it (they're asking for other concessions from Fatah in exchange for that one, from what I've read). It would be a disaster for Israel's militarists if Fatah and Hamas came up with a joint offer of peace that includes a recognition, hence another attempt at preventing this eventuality.In Soviet Russia, Fake borises YOU.Comment

You are attempting to get your way by threatening an entire population, albeit in a piecemeal fashion. I think I was clear enough. Hamas members were implicated, and they were nowhere to be found. Where are you going to look? as you said yourself, the Hamas leadership had given orders to stay calm, then broke those orders themselves when the action took place.
