  • This is the whole song, for people who can't be bothered with the video.

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl
and he's always at home with his back to the wall.
He's proud of the scars and the battles he's lost
He struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

Give a moment or two to the angry young man
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand
He's been stabbed in the back, he's been misunderstood
It's a comfort to know his intentions are good
He sits in a room with a lock on the door
with his maps and his medals laid out of the floor
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage,
I've found that just surviving was a noble fight
I once believed in causes too, had my pointless point of view
Life went on no matter who was wrong or right.

And there's always a place for the angry young man
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand
He's never been able to learn from mistakes
He can't understand why his heart always breaks
His honor is pure, and his courage as well
he's fair and he's true, and he's boring as hell
And he'll go to his grave as an angry old man.

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl
and he's always at home with his back to the wall.
He's proud of the scars and the battles he's lost
He struggles and bleeds as he hangs on the cross

It's a favorite of mine. I'm a little embarrassed that I misquoted it.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The funny things is you mention at least two cases (ISIS and Rwanda) where the colonial policies of Western nations played a significant role in the outbreak of war.

I keep voting for imperialist governments, therefore peace is unrealistic.

      • Pacifism requires that those in power respect pacifism, or at least want to project a civilized image. You have that, and you can have MLK or Gandhi. You don't, and you have Tiananmen Square or worse.

The news started playing on the radio.

News say: blah blah a UN resolution is going to be passed demanding for the immidiate end of the invasion etc etc"

Taxi driver ironically says: "yeah NOW they're demanding that, after they ****ed them up so hard"
            I said yeah...
driver says: but hamas aint doing good either putting those children in front"

taxi driver. two sentences, all the news.

            • Intermediate solution to the conflict is that US gives Israel the Palestinian territory and gives all Palestinians the green card.

That would sort it out rather quickly, I give it a year. Palestinians can either become Israeli or Americans. Until Israel conquers more territory, there is no issue, assuming they continue conquering, this procedure can be repeated as many times as required.

                    • It's hard to sympathize with the Palestinians when they could win so easily by going full Gandhi. A few Israeli screw ups later and they win. Instead they do the exact opposite...

This is unsurprising. Your loyalties have never lied with America.

They tried that before. The result was that the Israelis assassinated the Prime Minister who was negotiating with them.
