The difficulty that I think a lot of people have with transgenderism is a lack of awareness that gender identity is a construct of the brain. Most men think they think they're male because of their genitalia, but in truth men think they're male because that's the identity their brain has constructed for them. If we could turn off a person's gender identity--in much the same way that we can turn off the sense that you are inhabiting your body, or that your limbs belong to you, or that you make your own decisions--it might go a long way toward getting people to appreciate what actually occurs with gender dysphoria.

Am not sure what the point of this thread is. I think Manning is mentally unwell, but see no point in mocking him for it--and I'm about the closest thing to an ally you have here, barring your brother and maybe Ben. Nor are most people here all that outraged by whatever the hell it was he did. I don't even remember what it was anymore, wasn't he basically a really lightweight version of Snowden or something? Can't remember caring at the time either.

Gender is a construct of an X or Y chromosome, you silly person. Bradley Manning is clearly deeply mentally disturbed, as evidenced by his behavior in the military both before and after his little act of treason, and now this rigamarole.
