We've spend decades pushing religion the hell out of public life. Why exactly would we want to invite it back in? Britain is supposedly 59.5% Christian (and even that's wildly overrated due to people still just putting down CoE out of habit). Why would we start talking about Christianity having relevance to how we live our lives, when only just over half (at the very most generous estimate) even believe in it?

The Anglican church is just Western Orthodoxy. It retains the most essential element of Orthodoxy - Caesaropapism.
      John Brown did nothing wrong.

Perhaps PM Cameron doesn't want religion pushed "the hell out of public life".

          13% - UKIP

What, you think its because of his views on the UK's Christian history that is making the polling turn out the way it is? Besides, isn't this changing goalposts? Does it matter how the remarks are received if he truly believes it - isn't the discussion about his beliefs rather than how those beliefs poll?

                Orthodoxy has no "pope".

The Serbs have a church patriarch. But he's just a tired old sack with no actual power.

The main reason is his underhand policies towards the NHS (which he'd promised to protect) and his government already seeming wildly out of touch with normal people after only a few years in power. The religious stuff has not gone unnoticed however, and is playing its own part. If you want to get on in national politics here, you don't go around waving your religious beliefs in the air, something Tony Blair understand perfectly well.

Who gives a toss about his beliefs? When he speaks as the Prime Minister then he's speaking in an official capacity. His personal beliefs have absolutely no place in that. He's the Prime Minister of millions of atheists, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and so on too, trying to tell us we should accept our country being built around Christianity is unacceptable.

If you understand how deeply secular this country really is, you'll understand why this kind of thing is not tolerated here.

Of course not, only Monophysites are true Christians.

No one really gives a crap about the Archbishop of Canterbury either.

                          Great... and irrelevant.

You don't care about the beliefs of your highest officials? Really?

And its amazing how bent out of shape y'all can get about your PM expressing a truism.

                            Yup.

Though, I've never heard him referred to as being a "pope".

He's not the head of the Anglican Church. Queen Elizabeth II is.
