I'm trying to do my part to help 'poly, 'cause I think the Civ circle of English-speaking forums is much better off with ACS prospering. I really do, and you know I'm backing that up with action. But I need to be writing up a motivational post to the troops at AC2 instead of chatting with you right now...

Yah. I think the best moderators don't really want to mopderate anyone -us being, by the nature of the thing, a bunch of OCDish nerdz who often don't handle power over others well- but it's crucial that they be WILLING to. I could point and name names of mods elsewhere who carry not wanting to do their duty to a disastrous level, and I can also point at somewhere they give in to their worse aspie nature. A happy medium. A happy medium, for sure, is best.

That's a funny story. Also the fact that the unmoderated forum here would be more polite is hilarious.

Poly has it's own character. Blaming me or other posts for what it's always been strikes me as odd. Poly can be at times vicious and cruel, but it's also incisive and compelling.

I have a long-term view on the site. Apolyton has been around ... longer than I have been online ... and I'd like to see it continue, and regain it's standing in the Civ community. Part of that will be having a friendly community that helps keep around people who may not be as impervious to criticism as those of us who prefer the OT the way it is. If however if Gruff is never used, I'll chalk it down to a few minutes of clicking and not worry about it.

The Gruff forum will probably be renamed "Civilized OT". "Gruff" was a reference to the billy goats ... the big brother who took care of the troll. I do understand that it's a rather oblique reference and unlikely to be picked up on by many people at first glance.

As for the moderation there, I will be providing it at first. Ming and Robert are global admins, so show up on most forums, but aren't necessarily involved in day to day moderation of those forums. If a community develops there we will pick moderators who show themselves to be active and have good standing in that community and the site in general. We probably won't pick anyone who has a beef with anyone in the OT.
