KENNESAW, Ga. - A gunman opened fire on at least six people early Tuesday, at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, GA.
According to reports, the shooting happened at a FedEx facility at 1675 Airport Road. Officials say the lone suspected gunman has been found dead, likely from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. The gunman is described as a 'package handler', an employee of the facility. According to the Associated Press, a witness stated: the FedEx shooter had assault rifle, knife and bullets strapped across chest 'like Rambo'.
Family members are being directed to a nearby skating facility for information about their loved ones.
Officials from Kennestone Hospital say they've received six patients from the shooting. Injuries range from minor to serious. Kennestone is a Level II Trauma Center. Doctors say 3 of the patients are undergoing surgery and are considered to be critical in nature. Two other patients continue care and one has been released, officials say.
A spokesperson from FedEx released a statement saying:
"FedEx is aware of the situation. Our primary concern is the safety and well being of our team members, first responders and others affected. FedEx is cooperating with authorities."
At 9:30am, an additional statement was released:
"We can confirm that an incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, Georgia. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends. We are grateful for the assistance of law enforcement. The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy."
