  • No I don't even want to consider the city of chicago owning any sports teams. Imagine if every team in the city was run as bad as the city is.
They'd all be like the cubs. Always rebuilding and just a promise that eventually they'll win.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
RIP Tony Bogey & Baron O

    • While I can see cities running essential services, a professional sports club is pretty much a the exact opposite of an essential service.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Then, at the very least, all teams need to be charged for using the stadiums they don't build.

It's different almost everywhere, I know. Some places do this already.

I just want them to pay the same taxes as everyone and properly compensate the municipalities for using public resources.

This sounds like something the 1\% needs to investigate in great detail.

            Agree.

However, it can be an important revenue stream.

Personally, if it meant lowering horribly regressive taxes like sales taxes... and relieve the burden on local taxpayers in other ways... then yeah, I'd say the service is essential.

The point is, teams and leagues are making a ton of money thanks to taxpayers subsidizing their costs.

How am I the fiscal conservative here?

            • So ben, are you ready to admit you were wrong that this is going to blow over and Sterling will stay the owner of the team or are you going to say this quote meant something else and you're still right?
I was wrong. Sterling was Conan to the NBA's Doom.

Forbes argues that involuntary conversion would be enrichment at the expense of the Sterlings, ergo, making this sale tax-free.

How are sales taxes more regressive than payroll taxes? Payroll taxes are the worst. You don't even see the money. Sales taxes, the money is in your account until you decide to spend it. Once you get a month ahead of your bills, Sales taxes is like getting paid every month.

                  • I made no comparison or ranking of different kinds of taxes by any metric.
