The feeding frenzy is getting hilarious. There was even talk about taking the team away from him. (forcing him to sell it). Now we're getting absurd.
What he said was bad and he should probably be censured and is already paying the price in lost sponsors and anger from the fan base and players, but how much official punishment should he be given for something he said?
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

The league is an association of 30 owners, and those owners vote before letting someone buy in. Presumably they have the ability to vote someone out if they wish. That would be ugly. And if they do, I would suggest there will be plenty of hypocrites involved.

He has a right to his opinions. There's no need to censure him.

Some opinions are stupid. You can have them, but then you have stupid opinions. So people are going to laugh at you. And call you names. And make suggestions about your anatomy. That's the price for having stupid opinions. But you're still allowed to have them.

That's my main point, he's entitled to whatever silly opinion he wants, but if it becomes public, he's entitled to all the neg blowback for being an idiot, but the loss of his team or draft picks shouldn't be involved. But after saying that I doubt he'll own the team a within a few years.

I'm sure there is some sort of clause in the agreements owners make with the league about public behavior and disgracing the league. Mark Cuban had to pay a lot of fines over the years and got banned from attending games for a while IIRC. If he is in breech of contract, than yes, he should pay whatever penalty was agreed upon.

Thinking people should be punished for their opinions is what led to the outrageous firing of the director of Mozilla and I don't like to encourage it.

And yes of course while you're entitled to your opinions other people are entitled to hold them in contempt too.

Racism, on the part of an owner of an organization/business, is considered an HR violation under California law. He is, by default, creating a hostile work environment for every single employee of the Clippers organization (according to random CNN lawyers).

A "right" to his opinions? Sure. If he keeps them to himself.

The conservative victim mentality won't save this guy.

Maybe it's time for conservatives to start respecting the laws of this country... or they should move to Mexico, where they can live a better life.

We should definitely punish people for their opinions. For example, if the president is of the opinion that the Constitution and toilet paper are interchangeable, we should punish him. Less dramatically, we do--and should--punish elected officials for having opinions that differ from ours, because it means they won't do the job we hired them to do. The same can be said of many other jobs. Is an avowed communist going to make a good stock broker? Probably not. Is a patently racist owner going to be a good boss to a bunch of black athletes? Probably not.

If you sign a contract, you should live up to it or face the penalties for not doing so.

Oh thank you so much for your permission.

Would you say that there are certain situations - and the Huston Plan was one of them - where the president can decide that it's in the best interests of the nation, and do something illegal?

Richard Nixon: Well, when the president does it, that means it is not illegal.

While the hostile work environment is an interesting concept, I would think that being unable to sign or retain high quality players will serve as ongoing punishment.
The subsequent devaluation of his franchise (valued at around $700 million) will hit him where it hurts.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a few civil lawsuits. But I agree, let the market decide. The NBA should limit what it does. (like it did to Mark Cuban)
