i was just wandering about that because despite obama and the US having a rather good image to the outside world (europe at least) it seems in this forum that quite a few americans think he isn't "Strong" enough in the international stage.
so i was just wandering who the republican president could be, if americans voted for one
    (sorry for the threadjack)
I think Obama's weak and not a very good president, but not for the reasons the conservatives talk about - he wasn't qualified/ready when he ran for President, and he's a Hawaiian, with a laid-back Hawaiian conciliatory attitude. We didn't need a deal-maker when he took office; we needed a populist egalitarian anti-fascist firebrand who would close the concentration camps and put a stop to the un-American torture and police-state surveillance.

He has let us down as an administrator and as the inspirational leader he had the potential to be, being very good at the speeches. Instead, we got a quiet president who, in the face of the most unreasonably mindlessly obstructionist fascist congress since 1865, is trying to make deals with the internal enemies of American freedom.

And sadder, I don't see anyone better on either side of the political spectrum to step up in the future. Mad Monk failed to mention Rand Paul for the Republicans, who is probably going to run. He's half the man his father (a libertarian kook, but one with political guts and integrity) is, and will do many times better, sadly, because he appeals to the lowest common denominator.

    • Buster's Uncle, where do you get the information that you use to base your opinions on?

When it comes to the use of American power on the international stage, yes I believe American lives and State interests should be paramount. I would be interested if you could give me a reason why this issue should cause me to want US involvement.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I'm not going to try to recount every relevant news item I've read watched or listened to going back to when Bakrama first hit the national spotlight in 2004. I don't remember, for one thing - do you?

Short answer - the news, and that's a variety of venues. The conclusions are my own.

I could probably dig up the old magazine article from before he even ran for president that talked about the laid-back make-a-deal Hawaiian thing, having read it online early last year. It had a powerful ring of truth and made sense of a lot of what I've observed about his presidency.

No doubt the conclusions are yours. But how do you analyze the information you get? I was just wondering because the commentry you offered about Obama doesn't mention, for example that he lied to us about being able to keep our healthcare plan. Similarly, I was just reading a CNN oped tilted "Why can't Obama Catch a Break?" Appearantly they don't get why most people don't like him and make no mention of the lie that he told like 50 times.

                • I'm not particularly interested in discussing the invisible Obama that only Republicans can see (I got that one from John Stewart). Please content yourself that I just took a big dump on him, because the real Obama isn't all that great - you guys don't need to keep accusing him of imaginary stuff. He's not a good president, for realz.

I never said anything about US involvement. I asked why you cared about some lives and not others. There's a gigantic difference. For example: I cared a lot about my cat Annie who died a few years back, but it never crossed my mind that the US government should deploy military resources to save her life.

What imaginary stuff? The mainstream media reported it. Are you and John Stewart calling them liars?

No one cares about the problems of Africa beyond cheap and meaningless hash tag activism. Did the world ever get Kony for instance?

No, Kid - I'm calling you a crank. Why be a typical innerwebs nerd who claims every incorrect statement is a lie when you're so much brighter than that? Is it more likely that he lied or that the system didn't work as planned because he's not a good administrator and it was a bad plan? Please don't answer; I don't want to discuss Obama with you, and this is only going to get rude if we keep derailing talking about Invisible Obama instead of those raped girls.
