I'm not convinced all EA owns is the name. It seems Firaxis also has to avoid making a direct sequel in other ways.

I'm also worried the lead designers are incredibly unintelligent, which is actually making me long for the design smarts of prepubescent manchild Tripp (who is now in his mother's forlorn basement working on a kickstarter with two other cut-rate hires, one of whom appears to be a hipster gal straight out of a ghetto visual arts school whose only qualification is that she can hand-draw a pony, and the other of whom appears to be a gay asperger's-riddled serial killer waiting for the right moment to slice off Tripp's nuts for eventual cryostorage) or even the noted child pedophile and Brave New World lead stooge Ed Beach. They seem convinced that the nonlinear "tech web" is needed because we don't know what future tech is, whereas the Civ 5 tree being linear makes sense because "we all know you start in the stone age and end in the modern age." The only problem is this makes absolutely no logical sense and does not follow in any way, but they keep repeating it as if it is an urgent and inventive answer to some cataclysmic problem that Endless Space didn't already solve a year ago.
