Not really. That just leads to even greater spending.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

50 years of tax cuts and all we have for it is more spending
Clinton slightly raised rates... deficit turns into surplus
Also, it helps to have other policies in place that DON'T cause the next Great Depression

I would be happy if you could provide one time in the history of the federal government that an increase in taxes wasn't accompanied by an increase in spending. You might convert me into a tepid supporter of a VAT for the purposes of debt reduction if your information checks out.Originally posted by Sava View Postor rather, some idiot's false interpretation of it

The only tax increase to the top rate since WW2 came in 1993 under Clinton... rates for the top went from 31% to 39.6%
Total federal spending increased only slightly in the next few years... and shrunk as a % of GDP.
In fact, the only years spending has decreased (in recent history) has been under Obama. That's right, Obama is the only president to lower spending from one year to the next.
So please... become a Dem activist. They practice what you preach.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Did Bush's tax cuts lead to lower spending? Did Clinton's tax hikes lead to higher spending? (Relative to GDP).Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostNot really. That just leads to even greater spending.

RELATIVE TO GDP. Or do you live in a fantasy land where various factors like the size of the population don't affect the level of government spending and we don't need to control for them?Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostNo. Yes.
I'll bet the US government spends a lot more (in absolute terms) than the government of Sweden.
