Policies aren't so much a result of any kind of intelligence as they are a natural result of physical processes... water flowing downhill... but with many more variables.

Russians always seem to ignore getting their asses handed to them. From the Crimean War to the Russo-Japanese War, to WWI, Russia was a punching bag. It was only when they got millions of tons of supplies from America in WWII that they were able to start putting up a real fight.

I think it's also worth remembering to give the Finns an honorary mention for also kicking Russia's ass.

The Winter War is a real David vs. Goliath story. The Finns had no advantages over the Russians whatsoever, in technology, manpower, equipment...except for I suppose not being Russian, which turned out to be the crucial differentiator.

The Winter War is one of those things that just makes me really ****ing angry. Russia had no right or reason whatsoever to just steal Finland's largest city, 10% of its territory, and 30% of its economy. And Russia has never stopped doing these kinds of things against its neighbors whenever it feels like it. We should have kicked Russia when it was down in 1991 and given Viipuri back to the Finns. Maybe that would teach them to stop taking territory with zero justification from Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. Or supporting Serbian genocide against ethnic minorities.

You are over-inflating the importance of nations and individuals. Imagine observing the Earth from space and not having any contact with humanity... including our media, history, and voices. We're just ants running around. There's no such thing as "America" or "Russia". It's just a bunch of drones being controlled by various forces... groupthink.

The history of humanity is a flash in the pan. It doesn't matter if Germany invaded England and won WW2. It doesn't matter if Egypt was the dominant empire of the modern era. None of it matters.

Humanity is a wave of destruction and consumption that is rapidly leading to its own demise. We're probably already dead and just don't know it yet. And we're certainly not smart enough to figure out how to save ourselves. Millions of years from now, even our radio emissions will be scattered and lost to any possible observers out there.

The human experience is awesome, don't get me wrong. But it is absolutely miniscule. The arrangement of inanimate matter (geography) controls our entire existence.

Just over half actually. Which is irrelevant as you said Russians would never surrender. How can their be 5.7 million Soviet POWs if that is the case?

And no the Soviets did not liberate all those prisoners. Upwards of one million of them were released by the Germans themselves to return to occupied territory as they couldn't handle them or because they were of ethnicities the Soviets had oppressed and who were now allied with the Germans. Of course however they were were captured or released mattered little as their countrymen just sent them to gulag as soon as they were repatriated.

Most of those collaborators were civilians. Civilians participating in the German occupation administration or puppet states. Civilians who actively fed or otherwise aided the Wehrmacht. Which again calls out your BS claim because the same thing would have happened to any part of the USSR the Germans might have overrun.
