  • I'm becoming a hippie

    Sorry.

I don't know exactly what a hippie really is but these days, I wake up and try to do yoga (sometimes failing to start), jogging, eating unprocessed foods (except if in a restaurant and someone else is offering), organic, lost of salads and veggies, avoiding red meat, I also avoid over indulging in porn and violence, I try to smile and think the best of people, get angry less, just generally be more happier and open minded. I try to say "yes" as much as possible. I'm not judging people anymore so much or thinking they're stupid. I still think half the people are statistically not that prone to being smart by definition but that's OK. Doesn't mean they're idiots or good folks.

I'm more open to those with different views, more open to religion and religious people. Not that I was against religious people, but let's just say that spiritual world is now more important to me than before. I have not yet defined it for myself, what it is, but I recognize it as a real dimension, a void that I should fill with something. For now, it has been yoga and philosophy and xbox, but in the future less xbox (and more PS4 probably). I really don't care about money at all anymore. Then again, I had a great salary for almost 2 years so not having to worry about money is usually a luxury for fortunate people. This I know, it didn't used to be like this. I'm more into wanting to feel things with my hands and feet and body, tasting stuff, making my own food, and soon - growing most of my own food. I'm into relaxing things. Things that smells nice. I'm not in a hurry. I won't be late but I'm not in a hurry either.

Dirty hippie Pekka But I don't stink - at least yet.

So to not make it a complete me thread - are you a hippie or have you been one? Do you know hippies? What am I missing? What else should I be looking at? The goal is to be in touch with myself - I seriously think it is one root of my problems (even in the physial world), causing all that stress., leading to problems with immune system and who knows what.

I was once sorta a hippie, but never did drugs so I was always a black sheep in the drum circle

That actually doesn't sound so bad. Just make sure you still bath regularly as some hippies don't do that and so get that dirty, stinky hippy smell.

You aren't really a hippie, Pekka. You are more what, we'd call in the US, as a liberal yuppie - you'd fit in very nicely in San Francisco.

I used to be a treeplanting, french speaking sushi lover who lived near Commercial Drive, wore a long beard with retro fashions. Then I moved to Texas and got over that phase.

Liberal yuppie... not sure about that... liberal I am. Yuppie, not sure. I guess my salary would make me a yuppie but I don't like that so ... hopefully at least I'm not that. Do you mean hipster? That I am NOT! That's one degree from punk.

Yuppie just means Young Urban Professional. In the 80s they were the guys all interested in fashion and showing off their money (think "American Psycho"). These days they still show off, but they show off with their organic food and "healthy living".

This just sounds like growing older.

Care less about other people and what they do and care more about taking care of yourself.
