Clearly, Avast hasn't put Ben on ignore yet.

You're late to the party Albie. Also, it's been resolved already , so go update.

Avast and AVG are the biggest piece of **** antivirus/malware vendors.

I'm engaged in a pretty vicious debate with them because they believe websockets (a fundamental "Web 2.0" technology) are unsafe so they block them wholesale. This breaks tons of **** in the software I write.

We're about two weeks away from sending an email to almost every school district in the western world that they cannot use AVG and Avast and use our software at the same time, as those vendors show no interest in cooperating.

My uni actually recommends using Security Essensials from MS.

Interesting how the Asher solution to programming is to make everyone else change to fit him.

Not everyone else, just the incompetent vendors who can't be bothered to implement effective software. Every vendor in the world except AVG and Avast get this right. Incidentally, AVG and Avast have something like 95% of their users paying nothing - so I guess they get what they pay for.

Their solution of blocking websockets is akin to shutting down roads to prevent car theft. It's ridiculous. It prevents legitimate software from functioning.

And did you point them to the license agreement? The one, the last one I read, where the user agreed that AVG could gather info about the user and sell it to whomever they wanted?

                          .

Why am I unsurprised that you market spyware for school use?

Every vendor in the world except AVG and Avast get this right. Incidentally, AVG and Avast have something like 95% of their users paying nothing - so I guess they get what they pay for.
All the more reason for them not to cater to insecure software developers. Imagine this. Spyware developer complains to antivirus to get delisted from the scans. You're saying the antivirus should accommodate them? That defeats the entire purpose of their software.

Their solution of blocking websockets is akin to shutting down roads to prevent car theft. It's ridiculous. It prevents legitimate software from functioning.
Perhaps the solution would be to accommodate your users by redesigning the software? Just a thought here. If I knew that your software didn't work for my students and caused them issues, what's the chance of me (or my school), signing on with you? Zero.

Just a thought that telling your clients that they need to accommodate you by changing what they do, isn't going to fly very well in the educational field.

                            You're an idiot.

The irony of this whole situation is, as nye says, AVG is the actual spyware. All we're trying to do is educate children.
