Depends on your perspective. I'm happy with my pay. I'm also a single man with few bills. Others might not feel the same.

But the whole point of insurance is to spread the cost over a larger group of people. If you wait to buy health insurance until you're having chest pains radiating to your arm when you jog, a nodule is seen in some free screening Xray, you feel a lump in a testicle, you have blood in your bowel movement then you're cheating the insurance company. In essence they have a right to take your money before you get sick.

If that's the case, why did we ban insurance companies from excluding coverage for pre-existing conditions? Isn't that the entire purpose of the ACA along with community rating to make sure the sick aren't charged more than the healthy?

One, I'm not a citizen, so I have no constitutional right to receive health care. Nor do they have any right to demand that I pay into health care.

Two, even if I were - I don't see any such right in the constitution.

It seems to me that the law as written permits them to do unconstitutional things like forcing citizens to pay for the health care of non-citizens, and bars providers from discriminating on pre-existing conditions. Which is a great deal for me, and a crappy deal for everyone else.
