Good question. Most Catholic schools have their teachers sign a clause stating that they will uphold the public teachings of the Catholic church. It's a morals clause too. In the the Richardson's case - his contract explicitly permits talking to the media and gives A+E the chance to screen interviews. A+E stated that they had cleared the interview beforehand, so there was nothing barring him from speaking out in public as he did. It's also not contrary to his employer. It would be one thing if he criticized A+E, quite another to state his personal beliefs.

I chose to take this job, and I am very happy with it. I signed the contract. I was not under any sort of duress to do so, and if I have a problem with the contract I should be prepared to leave. It's really just that simple.

Yes, I dishonored myself by ensuring that I can make a decent living here in Texas, by abiding by my employers request. Again, if I didn't like it I could easily have left. Instead, I chose to stay on and work at a school where I am very happy with a great boss. So yeah, I'm the loser here.
