Is it time to sell Detroit to OCP?:

          Ben has strange wet dreams.

Why ? Did he approve of elderly people loosing their pensions ?

Edit: on second thought, I don't want to know.

Seems to show that even based on such a crude comparison (equating years of schooling) the car majority of government workers make substantially more than their private sector counterparts. Meanwhile, the degree of unobserved heterogeneity is likely quite high (for instance, the quality of education, years of experience or field of study).

You would still have this problem. Voters would not bother to learn about the election and would probably vote randomly. In most districts, school boards are "nonpartisan" so there is no party identifier next to the name, so you really have no information about the candidates. The random votes will roughly cancel each other out, meaning that the election will just be decided by the teacher's union.*

Furthermore, if elections were compulsory, I'm pretty sure most people would be pissed about having to skip some work to vote for something as trivial as a school board. There's a reason no one votes in school board elections. No one cares. If they don't care, why should it be an elected position? In fairfax county, there's an elected position for the guy who runs my district of the water system. I know **** all about water systems. I want my county supervisor to figure that out. That's HIS job.

You're a ****ing idiot who can't parse a simple sentence.

*Trivia: this is why the "ask the audience" lifeline on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire works so well. People who don't know the answer vote roughly randomly and cancel each other out, so the people who actually know the answer end up deciding the winner of the poll.

In general no one cares about local politics at all. That's why decentralizing the government is such a stupid idea.

People don't bother to check what their leaders do.

Reduce the amount of democracy and poof! problem solved.

Yes, the guy running the water mains is a leader of men, a true visionary. What would we do without his guidance in making sure the showers shower and the shit gets sucked away? Clearly this is a man who should be chosen directly by the will of the people. Anything else would be tyranny.

What problem? Since voters apparently vote randomly if they vote at all and a small minority decides the election democracy isn't interfering with the leaders' plans at all.

That's not true when people actually know who the **** the candidates are, or can identify the political party. Only for stupid **** like school board and dog catcher and other retarded positions that should just be executive. It's also not true if you don't have mandatory voting. Gribbler, please stop being so deliberately obtuse.
