Pope Francis calls unfettered capitalism 'tyranny' and urges rich to share wealth
I don't think that a "Tax the rich until there are no rich anymore" philosophy would be overall for the good.
It's good he didn't actually say that then .
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
I'm glad to see Plato doing his best to defend my wealth.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
We'll have to wait and see if he actually does anything about it, but..
He didn't advocate the church giving up its wealth. He advocated reaching out to those in the streets. There's no mention of selling off artworks and ancient relics to give money to the poor or anything. His comments are not a new policy, they are in keeping with over a hundred years of tradition since Rerum Novarum.
Francis is obviously a good hearted man who takes his beliefs seriously. I don't think he understands though where wealth comes from. I do agree that the wealthy could and should do more for the poor, but I don't think that a "Tax the rich until there are no rich anymore" philosophy would be overall for the good.
Still... for the thought and trying to bring attention to the true mission of the church.
Clearly, everyone is born with a certain amount of wealth and the wealthy accumulate more by cheating everyone else of their fare share.

Inspiration and effort. Imagine a ship wreck survivor. His first wealth would come from building a shelter and starting a fire. More wealth would come from making a fishing pole or net, and more wealth would come from those wealth creating tools when he starts harvesting fish from the sea. The ship wreck survivor is unlikely to engage in philosophy or adopt socialism, because these things do not create wealth.

What's wrong with philosophy? You need Philosophy to understand why your argument doesn't counter socialism, because there's only one person.
