At the end of the day there are far, far better restaurant ratings systems out there.
No. You're just upset that Michelin's system accurately represents the dominance of the East Coast restaurant scene over the West Coast.

Also, to no one's surprise, Oerdin is completely wrong about Michelin only covering Western Europe and the East Coast. Japan has the most starred restaurants of any country.

Coke is acidic so, no, it won't work. You want something base so that's why baking soda works. Also with coke you'd end up with syrup on the terminals which will probably burn black when heated and gunk up the connection.

Carbonic acid works just fine. Rinse with water after no syrup residue.

These are all recent expansions in the last decade or so. They still have very spotty coverage in the US and most of the world. For the US Zagat and Gayot are far better.

Within the last decade is a "recent" expansion?

You're right that Michelin has some gaps, because they only cover major cities. That's why San Diego didn't make the cut.

When it comes to dining guides, Americans have long been able to rely on the trusty Zagat Survey. The guides rate restaurants in dozens of cities around the country based on in the input of tens of thousands of frequent diners.

That's from 2007 (so six years ago) and Michelin was still thinking about doing a guidebook for cities like Chicago, Miami, Boston, and D.C. (they still have absolutely nothing in the south or the PNW). In America Michelin is the Johnny Come Lately who just doesn't have much breadth of coverage at all.

Chicago is well represented by Michelin starred restaurants. The other cities you listed aren't, for good reason.

Now, with in the last few years. That's the whole point, genius. They just don't cover very much of the US and what little they do cover only started recently. Meanwhile better restaurant ratings systems cover the whole country plus, unlike Michelin, they're completely transparent in how the rate restaurants where as Michelin notoriously is not. Hell, back in the 80's one of Michelin's editors even outright said he'd never give three stars (the max rating) to a restaurant unless they served French cuisine; it didn't matter how well they cooked, if it wasn't French, it wouldn't get three stars. I'm sure they've improved such obvious glaring deficiencies in the last 30 years but I think I will get my reviews from sources which at least try to be both objective and transparent on how they do their ratings.

Michelin is an exclusive ranking system for the best restaurants in the world. It would be moronic for them to waste time covering "fine dining" in two-bit cities like Pittsburgh and San Diego.
