Why am I not shocked that richy mcrich seemingly hasn't heard of Medicare Advantage? Or premium subsidies?

I'll give you only a few guesses as to what type of insurance coverage Guy was thinking for the poor when he laughed at you, Little Kuci McDuck.

Medical insurance is such a dumb idea. Just have the government pay for all doctor visits. That way poor people will go to the doctor and there's no expensive middle man.

But, you know... socialism. (though single payer is obviously a system that works and can keep costs down)

I didn't get sick and didn't go to a doctor for 30 years. One heart attack and the bills made paying for insurance all those years worth it.
Something is going to happen to you. You can argue about it among yourselves, but that's fact. Heart, cancer or MrFun talking you into a coma. It will happen.

Except that in every other country that has government run system, it's actually far less expensive that your insurance run version.

Have you ever actually wondered why that might be?

I know exactly why. I don't want the federal government butting into all things.

Yet you trust a private company to be involved in all facets of your medical care, despite them gaining by providing you with less care?

This was a superb blog I read recently.

As the healthcare debate picks up pace, I find myself being asked with increasing regularity what I think of Britain’s healthcare system.  Six months ago, I’d have jumped into the answe…

This paragraph especially reminded me of certain twins here.

When I lived in the UK, I railed against the NHS (the National Health Service). I cursed every delay, every perceived inconvenience, every way it differed from the care I had received in the US. But I moved to the UK only a few months after graduating from university and, until then, I had been covered on my parents’ very generous insurance so I had experienced American healthcare only as a dependent. I was judging my British experience from a lofty and privileged position of someone who’d always had gold-plated insurance. And I was naive, because I’d never had to pay for it, never had to worry it wouldn’t be there, never really had to deal with the paperwork. I never really understood what I was comparing the NHS to at all.
Worth reading her very fair summary.

The government here doesn't exist to fix my plumbing either.

That was very fair, really good read.

The comments are worth a read too. Lots of stories from Americans living in the UK, giving both sides.
