  • Sure it's Obama who's the partisan one. Jesus Christ you people are brainwashed, it's not even worth engaging with you. Half the republican leadership are on the record saying that the TP influence has forced them into a position where they can't negotiate with the Dems, but no, to you lot its all the Dems fault.

    • Of course it is. If the Democrats had picked a white guy like Bill Clinton in 2008 the Tea Party wouldn't exist. Therefore this is all the Democrats' fault.

        • On phone so I will pwn kentonio later, but imran, do you still think this law is awesome? Makes sense I guess since you work for the Dept of Employment Prevention. You work to keep people from getting hired at "unsatisfactory" jobs and so of course you like it when they lose their "unsatisfactory" healthcare.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

There's a reason why I called this transparently partisan but you and Imran are apparently too stupid to see it. Why do you think un-canceling canceled plans started out as a GOP idea? It’s really bad for ObamaCare.

Statement from the president of America’s Health Insurance Plans:

“Making sure consumers have secure, affordable coverage is health plans’ top priority. The only reason consumers are getting notices about their current coverage changing is because the ACA requires all policies to cover a broad range of benefits that go beyond what many people choose to purchase today.

“Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums for consumers. Premiums have already been set for next year based on an assumption of when consumers will be transitioning to the new marketplace. If now fewer younger and healthier people choose to purchase coverage in the exchange, premiums will increase and there will be fewer choices for consumers. Additional steps must be taken to stabilize the marketplace and mitigate the adverse impact on consumers.”
It's blatantly shortsighted political CYA that endangers the overall policy it intends to save and I hope he continues down that path. I'm also unsure where he gets the authority to do it.

                  • Seriously, how big a cluster**** is Obamacare at this point, on a scale from 1-10? I would say a "10", but I also would've said that last week and it's somehow gotten worse since then.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

                    • To think this all could have been avoided if they'd actually tried negotiating with Republicans at any point in the last five years

Yes, the political system is built on working together to find solutions--because EACH BRANCH HAS A CHECK AND BALANCE ON THE OTHER BRANCH. The house of representatives during the shutdown was using its CONSTITUTIONALLY OUTLINED CHECK on the other branches of government and house of congress to use as a negotiating position, EXACTLY AS THE FRAMERS OF THE CONSTITUTION INTENDED. There was no blackmail or extortion, and the entire process was working exactly as designed except for the part where the president refused to give an inch. Which was RETARDED of him, since it would have saved him from his current crisis in exchange for relatively minor embarrassment that no one would have remembered in six months.

Obamacare is a fractal. At every level of depth, upon inspection it appears equally awful. There's no bottom. Or top.

                          • It's hard to overstate how much of a political disaster this is for the democrats. The Republicans are going to hold vote after vote after vote after vote about fixing the most awful problems in Obamacare, which are uncoincidentally the most ideologically dear to the democrats. Democrats will have to choose between ideological anathema and unpopular voting records. It's like a fork in chess. Beautiful.

                            • Dontchaknow withholding supply has never been a thing in Britain...

                              • If the Liberal Democrats did what the Republicans did, which they could, Britain would have to hold an election. Or they would have to negotiate. Our elections are at regular intervals so we only have the option of negotiation or shutdown.

But, importantly, withholding supply traditionally in Britain was the only check Parliament had on the King. I can just imagine Kentonio now screaming about how Parliament had a gun to the king's head, how could he be expected to negotiate in good faith with them?
