Because he's a history grad with no real marketable skills.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

      • Apparently Obama backed off and is letting people renew their plans for 2014. Of course this same cancellation **** is gonna happen in 2015.

For supporters of the law, tell me, are these people who are desperately trying to renew their health insurance plans still getting a bad deal and should have their plans cancelled or have we always been at war with eastasia?

Those plans are gone, HC. He lacks the authority to tell insurance companies to bring those plans back, some of the companies have left the individual market altogether, and it will take way too long to go to the process of reconstituting those policies to avoid a gap in coverage.

If he were to be honest, He should just tell those Dems in Congress who are getting skittish to go **** themselves. This is what they supported and voted for.

          • If he were to be honest, he would have said from the outset that people couldn't keep their plan and the law would have failed to pass.

            But I take your point.

At any rate, the damage is done. Obama has ****ed up healthcare for millions of people. As they say, "nice job breaking it, hero". Hopefully enough Democrats will soil their pants sufficiently to start facing reality and the GOP can force some fixes to the law that might mitigate the harm, but I'm not going to let my hopes get too high.

            • Of course, this reversal gives the democrats a new defense--now that you are "allowed to keep your plan", it's the insurance company's fault. They may win over some unaffected people who would otherwise be upset, but people actually losing their insurance are unlikely to be mollified.

That's not a saying. It's a quote from a video game and the name of a TV Tropes article.

                  • I would pay money to any reporter who asks a question along the lines of this, "Mr President, during the shutdown you and your party were willing to fight to the death to avoid changing even one line of the ACA through negotiation because it was settled law and now you seem willing to alter certain provisions of the law. How do you square those two positions with the American people?"

It is both a great video game, and a great tvtropes article, thus I have elevated it to saying status

                          • Yeah, we're always willing to negotiate in good faith with people who have no leverage whatsoever.

                            • Don't be an idiot. You don't need to blackmail the other side to get compromise, your entire political system is built on working together to find solutions.

                              • The shift in tone and rhetoric on the part of the President and his party just seems transparently partisan to me. I shouldn't be shocked you'd be behind it 100%, ken.
