It's math, not logic. According to the data Dinner linked to, gun ownership rates are negatively correlated with gun murders. Obviously having very few guns lowers the gun murder rate, just as having very few Death Stars lowers the planetary annihilation rate. In America we already have 300 million guns in private hands. Since our national identity is wrapped up in not letting the government take our guns, and since guns are not registered in most states, mass confiscation is a pipe dream. All that remains is arming yourself and taking responsibility for your own safety and the safety of your community.
