It really makes me sad that a terrible mass killing in the country actually makes people want to go out and buy MORE weapons and ammunition - it's like a never ending spiral that keeps seeming to get worse and worse...

Both of those firearms mentioned--the 10/22 and the 15-22--are .22 caliber, a cartridge which is purchased typically in boxes of 500 or 5000 rounds. It's very small and suitable for killing stuff up to the size of a gopher. Still dangerous to people of course but it's not something you could reliably kill someone with unless you were up close and a very good shot.

I own a 10/22. Not the takedown model though. It would be pretty cool to SBR one of those and put a folding stock on it.
