I've barely commented on the tranny stuff in this thread.

EDIT: I suppose I'll take this opportunity to weigh in, since I've been called out. In person, I'd be perfectly willing to indulge in their little transexual fantasy, but otherwise I'm not going to pretend that it's anything other than a mental illness. And I personally think that permanent disfigurement should not be the medically indicated treatment for the vast majority of people with this problem. I also have a strong suspicion that a lot of people who claim to be transexual are seeking attention due to some other psychological disorder.

Even if we indulge in mangling the English language for their sensibilities, which I'm honestly fine with doing while speaking to their faces as a matter of politeness (because really who cares), there's a lot of things we can't change. They are still medically and biologically men (in the male-to-female case), and they aren't suddenly going to be sent to gynecologists, they shouldn't suddenly be using women's restrooms, etc. Vice versa of course for female-to-male (which as I recall is much less common).

It is rather funny that actual spies, as in people who sold military secrets to the Soviets for money during the cold war, usually got less than 20 years and often less than 15 years but Manning, who just exposed things American citizens should have a right to know anyway, mysteriously gets 35 years. Where is the logic in that?

He knew he was going to spend decades in prison no matter what so why shouldn't he try to make this into some sort of symbolic victory for equal rights? Several courts have ruled that sex change operations are in fact a right owed to inmates (there are a lot of convoluted medical discussions about self esteem but there is also the fact that transgendered inmates get raped at alarming rates in male prisons) so I can see him thinking if he's going to be there any way why not make it worth something by bringing a case for transgender rights? It will give him something to do for the next 35 years and it just might actually help future inmates.

Oh, and the sentence of 35 years is complete bull**** as actual spies who actually sold secrets to enemies almost universally got less than 35 years.

At least you have the good sense to pick a traitor who betrayed his country to Israeli spies. You can find individual cases with more but the average, even from people who did far more damage (and Manning didn't actually do any damage at all to the US), got about half the sentence.
