To be fair, lead ammunition is also often back ordered. For some reason we just can't maintain production at high enough levels to feed our demand..

      You mean..

EPA Assistant Administrator, Stephen Owens, cited steps already undertaken to curb lead use: limits on federal land, state regulation, education efforts and the increasing availability of non-lead alternatives.
So they admitted it was bad but didn't stomach an actual ban (unlike NY which does) and that means it's a better way? Also, since when did you give a damn what the EPA say?

I run a chemical plant. I always give a damn what the EPA says.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Lead poisoning from bullets in the ground is a liberal myth but it's been used to try to close a lot of shooting ranges.

The lead poisoning issue is that waterfowl ingest stones to assist with their digestion, and lead shot (not bullets) is the right size for this so they eat them. As a result you have to use steel shot in I think all 50 states when hunting waterfowl.

I don't think the word "myth" needs to have incendiary political spectrum labels compulsively attached.

Maybe, but I think telling hunters to pick a different type of ammunition is a relatively simple and easy way to reduce the amount of lead poisoning.

I'm shocked, shocked that the NRA doesnt like that anyone opposes hunting for any reason.

Thought the lead came from gasoline.
At least that's what they told us over thirty years ago.

The bird eats the road kill which is found on the road which has high concentrations of lead.

Don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure this one out.

Gas doesn't have lead in it anymore.

If non lead alternatives can be made as readily available and at a similar cost, then I see no issue. If the availability or cost IS the issue, then I think you have to look to the impact on the hunter and gun enthusiast versus the actual damage done. If it is true, as stated above, that the issue is only lead shot and that there are existing regulations to safeguard against this, then I believe there might be a political motive behind it. One way to eliminate something you don't like is to make it to expensive for people to do it.

The lead is still there on the road way.

Although leaded gasoline is largely gone in North America, it has left high concentrations of lead in the soil adjacent to roads that were constructed prior to its phaseout.

No, far from it. There are other sources than just from lead shot. The hunter and firearm enthusiast is being blamed is just a scapegoat. Only stupid if you fall for this pathetic excuse to blame lead shot..
