M4 closed in both directions because of sheep on the road
Whoever they belong to must be feeling pretty sheepish right about now...
It could only happen in Wales - the M4 was closed this morning because of sheep on the road
It could only happen on a Friday morning, and it could only happen in Wales, but a flock of runaway sheep caused traffic chaos on the M4 this morning after they made their way down a slip road onto the motorway during peak rush hour.
Police said a rolling roadblock was in use on the motorway to combat the rolling road flock between J35 Pencoed to J36 Sarn as the sheep were corralled eastwards towards J35. Luckily, a sheep dog did not need to be dispatched.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said its control room first got a call at 8.44am this morning from a driver who spotted the sheep making their way down the sliproad at J36.
Drivers in each direction were forced to slow down when the intruders reached the motorway - but in a case of shear luck there were no collisions.
Officers from the force's Roads Policing Unit corralled the sheep eastwards from J36, with an update at 10:03am saying the flock had been cleared from the road.
It is not yet known where the sheep came from, or who they belong to.
