No, that's a "Marine shower". I've never heard "Texan shower".
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Too bad for you. I have, and from an American. Aren't you pre-supposing that for some Americans the same thing might be called by a different name ?

I think somebody may have adapted the joke for the recent Texas hate. It's navy slang, and has been around since at least WWII.

          Or vice versa.

I'll have a look in my dictionary of American slang. And yes, I really do have a dictionary of American slang. I collect dictionaries.

Yeah, I've heard that one many times with the name of different minorities substituted depending on who they were making fun of.

Never heard marine before. Thanks for the possible origin of it.

Not having vistied Texas, I'm unsure whether this is unfair calumny or not.

I'm quite sure I don't much care either way.

We call that a pathetic if predictable response, but to be expected, and sadly, pitied.

                  Yep.

                  Used it fairly often.

                  Also applies to French people.

                  ACK!

My friend confirmed your opinion a few years back after a trip to Paris and a sexual encounter or three. Odd for a country which produces great scents and perfumes.

Looked in my dictionary of American slang- publ. 1968- no mention of showers, marine, Texan, motel or otherwise. 'Marine' gets a mention (empty bottle of liquor) as does a lot of military slang which is only to be expected.

Not really, if you think about it.

I may print off some of the terms and look 'em up, though. I may have mentioned I don't have internet access at home...
