What's American Food?

Costco's Mac & Cheese is a pretty good rendition of the boxed Mac & Cheese. Dress it up with real butter, some melted cheddar, and some parma and it's decent comfort food if unhealthy and not really Italian. The baked stuff with the crunchy bread crumbs and a bit of truffle oil is better though.

American Pizza, think Domino's here, or even better, Chicago Style Deep Dish, is an entirely different food, no more similar than a quesidilla is to a pizza.

You just ensured that no one will take your opinions on pizza seriously. You can't even tell real pizza from Chicago's bastardized skillet pie.

You can claim Chicago style pizza as American (mostly because it's ****ing horrible)

There's a restaurant in Rochester called Dinosaur BBQ (owned by George Soros, whatever, it's awesome I'm still gonna eat there) which has awesome chili

Food in the UK is much better nowadays. I really enjoy Hibiscus in London. If you are willing to travel a bit out of town, The Fat Duck is quite famous. In the low end, I have a weakness for Nando's Chickenland.

While we're talking about food here, I just discovered that Roquefort and apples are best buddies.

Stilton and pears works well too. And Guinness and chocolate- there's a Guinness chcolate bar too.

Any food that has high fructose corn syrup and artificial food coloring are probably American cuisine.

MRT, You would be surprised at the amount of Tex-Mex, Mexican/South-American restaurants that I've found in China, especially Shanghai. There was one called Mayan? that was stupid awesome as well as stupid expensive. While wandering one day, we happened across Pete's Tex-Mex, with boot shaped glasses for the beer. Food was a little off as this place did not do tortillas justice (like bread). But still not too bad. there was another place, forget the name, they had good fajitas. Not awesome, but still good.

I think Taiwan and China had more Italian restaurants than any other and most were very good considering location.

It's probably pretty hard to train the cooking staff as they're making something which they are personally unfamiliar with wrt how it "should" look.
