It it just me, or has anyone else imagined "The Rains of Castamere" to be an upbeat song with Latin American sound, something inbetween songs by Julio Iglesias and "Cuban Pete", while reading the books? You know, Spanish guitar, marimbas...Originally posted by Guynemer View PostThe only thing missing was Sony ominously playing "The Rains Of Castamere" in the background of Microsoft's presser.Graffiti in a public toilet

While OEM Windows revenues were in line with the declines in the PC market, non-OEM revenues, which includes the sales of Surface tablet and commercial sale of Windows were up 40% and offset the decline in OEM sales.

My company just bought SharePoint and will begin using it in the next couple of weeks. We had nothing remotely like it before hand.
We were also encouraged to be weaned off of Office a few years back for open source alternatives. We're back on Office now.

Why is that it is that it's taken as derisively when I say MS may eventually decide to give up the consumer market and focus on catering business? IBM was a great company before and is a great company after they went for the consumer with the PC. The corporate market doesn't get you coolness points but it's far less fickle.DISCLAIMER: the author of the above written texts does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for any offence and insult; disrespect, arrogance and related forms of demeaning behaviour; discrimination based on race, gender, age, income class, body mass, living area, political voting-record, football fan-ship and musical preference; insensitivity towards material, emotional or spiritual distress; and attempted emotional or financial black-mailing, skirt-chasing or death-threats perceived by the reader of the said written texts.

you also can't overcharge for mediocre products in the corporate market and get away with it like you can with the consumer market. that's basically the only reason apple is still in business these days.I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.

Exactly. IBM, Rolls-Royce, Siemens... they do some serious quality shizzle. I'm not familiar with SharePoint, but I'm happy to believe it's top notch software.DISCLAIMER: the author of the above written texts does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for any offence and insult; disrespect, arrogance and related forms of demeaning behaviour; discrimination based on race, gender, age, income class, body mass, living area, political voting-record, football fan-ship and musical preference; insensitivity towards material, emotional or spiritual distress; and attempted emotional or financial black-mailing, skirt-chasing or death-threats perceived by the reader of the said written texts.

IBM and MS are not comparable. IBM was a company that focused on government and enterprise and dabbled in consumer products. Microsoft has done both since day one. IBM left the consumer products industry because they could not compete. MS can, and does, compete.Originally posted by Colon™ View PostWhy is that it is that it's taken as derisively when I say MS may eventually decide to give up the consumer market and focus on catering business? Actually, I'd argue it's far EASIER to overcharge for mediocre products in the corporate market.Originally posted by self biased View Post[i]you also can't overcharge for mediocre products in the corporate market and get away with it like you can with the consumer market.
Look at HP's EliteBooks and compare them to MacBook Pros. Far more money, slower, cheap, heavy, big. But they sell by the droves to businesses."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
