Since he said local, that means it's in Missouri somewhere (IIRC near-ish Kansas City?). That's where my wife's family is from; doesn't surprise me in the least.

I think a deaf, dumb, blind kid being awesome at pinball is, well, awesome. Something for other kids with disabilities to look to as an inspiration - a 'you can do anything you want to' sort of hero. Changing him to 'ordinary' is uninspiring and boring.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Yeah. Imagine that you're deaf. Your main examples growing up are Helen Keller and that's about it. You have the folks who know nothing telling you how to live your life and what the expectations are on you. Then you have other people also saying what you'll never do and expressing surprise when you actually are able to do normal people stuff like drive a car, go out on a date, etc.It feels like we're headed that way.
I was very lucky. The deaf ghetto is quite real, most of it is caused by these folks and their expectations as to how the world should work. They want to provide support so that folks like me never have to earn a living, just like we never have to go to school and learn useful things because that might be too hard for us.
