Sava, I don't know anything about these consoles, nor do I care much, but the expectation would be that (hardware specs aside) consoles usually outshine their PC bretheren, even the very expensive elite gaming PCs, for a year or two after release, then for a year or two they outshine mid-level gaming machines, then for the last couple of years of the console cycle they're low-end gaming PCs. I don't think there's any reason to expect this would be different.

That's simply not true. It has never been true. Look at benchmarks. If you make a claim that consoles outperform PC's, post information supporting this claim.

I don't know about benchmarks, and don't really care - hence my one off statement. I'm a practical guy. Such concerns are, frankly, irrational and bizarre. I agree MS should provide an option to turn it off for tinfoil hat types, but there's a million workarounds here: unplug it when not in use, or just unplug the Kinect unit when not in use, etc.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they state the Kinect is required to even run the new XBox?

It's not really fair to say that "requiring X is a dumb idea". I mean, the Wii required you to use one of those wii controllers, right? Was that a problem?

It might cause people to not buy the console if it pushes the price point too high, but other than that I don't see a problem with it. The always-on, that I understand, but not the buying it in the first place.

Framerates for both consoles are capped at 30 for this game.

The 360 was released in November 2005, those are from a machine in September 2009.

How well does GTA IV run on a GeForce 7800 GTX? That was the hotrod card at the time of the 360's release.

I really don't understand the purpose of your statements. You have an impression. It's wrong. You cannot demonstrate it to be true. Is changing your opinion on a particular matter so threatening that you cannot do so? It seems absurd.

That doesn't even meet the MINIMUM requirements for GTA IV. The minimum is the top-end $600 card of the day, the 7900 GTX.

What the last console generation really lacked though was RAM. The new consoles have a lot more, now.

I've never owned an XBox of any kind, but I hopped to http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-everything-we-know-509069410 out of idle curiosity. This does seem like a dog--as does the Wii U, from what I've heard, but since that's not the subject of this thread, whatever. It seems they're tacking on a lot of extra hassle and restrictions, with the main benefit to the user being the ability to voice-command the thing like a computer on Star Trek. I'm sure the specs are great, but that's the sort of thing one assumes. And why did they switch the d-pad with the stick like that? Huh.

Doesn't matter to me, since I won't buy any of these things. If I want to get into modern games, I'll just upgrade my PC. But it is odd.
