Ben, the answer is that no one likes you.

I don't know what I'd do if Da Shi liked me.

I like you Ben. It's probably because I don't read most of your posts.

I got to know Ben through Civ2 Succession Games (with Scouse Gits and others), which was long before I ever posted in the OT. Those exercises of strategic planning and group cooperative efforts predate and somewhat inform my current interactions with him.

I didn't think he was a particularly insightful Civ2 player, but he got results. It was always clear that his approach was different. Not, IMHO, in a good way. But hey -- just a game.

Me too, although I wasn't one of them. Still, I learned a lot from the Mign/rah gang.

Civ2 MP Gold doesn't work on today's Macs. Makes me sad. Playing IV these days.

I once dueled Ming to a draw. My proudest civ2 accomplishment.

Thanks, JR. That's actually really kind of you to say. Looking back at the team of folks that were there - the Gits, etc, there were brilliant people there. I was not one of them. I've never thought that.

I'm curious, how exactly did you find my approach to the game different? And why exactly did you not like that approach?

I mean, probably the biggest decision I ever got to make, Marco Polo's vs Great Library I was 100 percent wrong. Probably the only time we ever lost aside from the 'follow the advisors' game! I mean, we eventually did manage to win the game - but only after the game was revisited a long time ago and it was shown that a win was possible.

I enjoyed the collaborative play in the secession games and playing with better players. That's why I participated.

I'm a firm believer of what goes around comes around, so I'm not surprised.

That was a long time ago, man. I'm relaying impressions/memories and cannot provide details. When I say "different approach," I remember that the game often went in unexpected directions after some people's turnsets, including yours. I think we all rated each other as players and that's how I remember you. FWIW, I did not rank myself very high on the totem pole. Some of the Succession players were true technical masters of the game.
