My main beef with Star Trek is that the early series were just westerns in space - solving everything with their side arms with a romantic interest thrown in, you might as well watch Bonanza.
I much preferred Lost in Space as a kid. Major crush on Penny, who had all the bits but didn't seem to know it. Will Robinson was one of my heroes, a kind of Huck Finn in space. That was one cool kid, capable and brave but prone to the mistakes kids make and it was always fun seeing how Will would get out of trouble, often of his own creation, we had all been there!
Dr Smith was one the most complex characters ever foisted on children, very camp, as was Robot. The show treated you like you could work it out, with lots of injokes and cultural/literary references, even Shakepearian plots. The adult characters were kind of dumb, which is exactly how kids of a certain age see adults. Will's father and mother would often get that, "one day you understand" look about them with Will. Don seemed just a nob and a hothead, as was Judy, the bimbo older sister, not very interesting to Will, again just the way kids would see young adults of that age.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

That's probably part of it, none of those women are going to be a romantic interest to a 9 year old, unless very advancedAny views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..
