Most Americans don't know much about Chechnya. They see the burned out rubble that was Grozny and think, "those damn evil commie Russians!" Now a muslim dude from there blows up a marathon. They'll see the burned out rubble that was Grozny and think, "serves them right!"If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Has anyone asked the FBI about the warning they received about the guy from a foreign government (Russia I assume) in 2011? Specifically what action if any was taken in response.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

It only "seems" that way to you because you probably are reading or watching right wing sources. The conservative victim thing isn't even necessary. I don't blame all Muslims for the actions of extremists. I don't blame all conservatives for the actions of extremist. So why be defensive about it? I don't give half a crap if some code pink or PETA dip**** does something... if they ever do. It's not a reflection of my views... on anything.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostTo be fair to them, it does seem to be the common factor among terrorists these days, doesn't it? Not that this justifies prejudice, but why would any other factor be especially interesting?

I've struggled with depression, yet I don't get all defensive when some mentally ill person does something crazy.

Extremism is for extremists. Their background is irrelevant. America has something like twice as much right-wing terrorism than Islamic terrorism... but that's because there are a lot more crazy white people here than crazy Muslim people. Afghanistan? They don't have any crazy white people terrorism... if you aren't counting US military operations, that is.

But we use drones. It's much more cowardly... and sane. To us, it is the BEAST. To us, it is the BEAST.

I am concerned at this also. The news seems to be saying that they are postponing "reading" him his Miranda rights so that the right to ant attorney, etc... can not be invoked. I have always been of the opinion that those rights did not derive from the warning but were...well...rights.Originally posted by kentonio View PostYeah I was seriously concerned when I read that the administration was able to suspend the suspects Miranda rights. What exactly prevents a future President doing that to say a political dissident?

I am all in favor of getting as much information from him as possible, but this is not a good thing to do it this way.

I agree with you...this could be a very bad precedent to be invoked in the future under different circumstances."I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

So we no longer recognize some imaginary right for an ethnic group to break away and start their own country?Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostMost Americans don't know much about Chechnya. Lasts summer, I held some burglars at gunpoint with shots fired, it took them about 20 min to respond and take them off my hands.

That sucks.Originally posted by Docfeelgood View PostLasts summer, I held some burglars at gunpoint with shots fired, it took them about 20 min to respond and take them off my hands.

Don't get me wrong, if I lived somewhere ****ty, I'd want a gun. Hell, I want a gun now. But owning a gun is generally not a good life decision.

I'm glad you are okay. There's no perfect solution to this. But I suspect, a shotgun would have worked for your purposes just fine. I have no idea what you had. But you didn't need an assault rifle with 30 rounds to hold those guys at gunpoint. To us, it is the BEAST.

 TY for your concern

It was a shotgun. I don't own a 30 round, semi automatic, rifle. Not that I don't want one, they are expensive and not very practical.
One bullet of a 5.56mm or 223cal cost about $1 to $1.25 each, depending on where you live.

I'm speculating on the emotional thought process of an American with poor grasp of the geography of the Caucasus. I don't really feel like expanding the scope of that.Originally posted by gribbler View PostSo we no longer recognize some imaginary right for an ethnic group to break away and start their own country? If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?
