That one is easy. They don't have to accept Medicare/Medicaid funding. Same way Congress got away with age 21 drinking laws by tying it to highyway funding.
I wonder if he fought the security guards or something else that's not being reported here, or even if he got into a physical fight with the family members prior to being expelled
That would make things more reasonable in how it is alleged to have played out.

It's lighting up talk radio here.

Apparently there is a law in Kansas City upholding partner's rights, and they overlooked or ignored it.

Do they even have that option? King Obama has threatened to shut down crap he doesn't like if they don't go along with the agenda.

                    Hospital spin control via Facebook:

We appreciate your concern and would like to assure you that Research Medical Center puts the care of our patients as our #1 priority regardless of sexual orientation. We support all the communities we serve. We have a long history of commitment to a culture of diversity. Research Medical Center was one of the first hospitals in Kansas City to offer domestic partner benefits, which have been in place since 2005, and we have had a policy specifically acknowledging domestic partners’ visitation rights in place for years.

This was an issue of disruptive and belligerent behavior by the visitor that affected patient care. The hospital’s response followed the same policies that would apply to any individual engaged in this behavior in a patient care setting and was not in any way related to the patient’s or the visitor’s sexual orientation or marital status. This visitor created a barrier for us to care for the patient. Attempts were made to deescalate the situation. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to involve security and the Kansas City MO Police Department.

We would also like to correct the misinformation about a restraining order. There was no issue of a restraining order by the hospital.

They do not have to accept funding, certainly, but the point is that the funding is a pretty big chunk of change for the hospital (particularly medicare).

I wonder if the spouse visiting got "disruptive" when the hyperventilating, hysterical family member got in the spouse's face?

Given the author and ambiguous title I'm going to assume this is another boring gay rights thread. Voted 1.

Because it's a MrFun thread there's a 99% chance it's a piece of **** that's not worth reading, so I'm going to throw in my blind two cents here: you can be ejected from a hospital ward because the patient needs to be left alone for treatment or whatever.

That's not clear, of course. I wouldn't be surprised to find that there was a familial dispute (extending family to include the partner here) that got heated, and the hospital expelled the partner as a result of that. The question would then be, did they act correctly in doing so [ie, was he the primary reason for the significant disruption, or was he expelled because the nurse/etc. felt he had less right to be there]. I think it's hard to say without more firsthand knowledge, but perhaps it's a bad idea to jump all over the hospital without knowing that.

I don't see it reported, but were they all asked to leave, for whatever reason; and if so, did the partner just refuse?
