If I remember my history correctly, before April 2, 1982 opinion polls showed her to be among the most unpopular Prime Ministers ever.

What makes you think they were carrying out opinion polls on the Duke of Wellington in the early 19th Century ? She was personally deeply unpopular, and so were her policies. The Tory Party won the post-Falklands election but by not much of an improvement over its 1979 showing, if memory serves me correctly.

Feel free to check the figures yourself. Labour won the 1945 election with a 'landslide' of under 50% of the votes cast. Same in 1950. In 1951 it lost to the Conservatives, despite getting almost 1% more votes.
