It will look good alongside his Nobel Peace Prize.

    • If he'd be King Obama, logic dictates that our own queer old dean must be Queen Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg .
      Jumping the gun.

Vicky is House of Wettin. Lizzie will be the last of that house. Unless by 'Queer old dean', you mean Bonnie Prince Charlie?

And what's that system doing for you now?

            • Yeah, it would clearly suck if the democratically elected president was allowed to actually carry out the policies he was elected on. You ****ers don't give a damn about democracy, you just want your own selfish desires realized, and **** the rest of the country.

                    • the airbrushing of Thatcher and Reagan, turning them into sort of plaster saints for the right, is kind of interesting to those of us that actually lived through that time, Ollie North, Iran Contra, the miner strikes, the print strikes, Northern Ireland, the 240 marines killed in Beirut, all forgotten on Foxnews and other sycophant sites, those were actually quite grim times, not a golden age

There were grave doubts about where things were heading, even thermo nuclear war seemed possible, the Sovs had 20,000 main battle tanks in Europe and the wall didn't actually come down until after Reagan had left the whitehouse, and I think Thatcher was near the end or gone

                      • Roosevelt was gone before VE day, and Churchill gone before VJ day. Not sure a simple timeline is an appropriate analysis.

What makes you think they were carrying out opinion polls on the Duke of Wellington in the early 19th Century ? She was personally deeply unpopular, and so were her policies. The Tory Party won the post-Falklands election but by not much of an improvement over its 1979 showing, if memory serves me correctly.

                              a landslide.
You and I clearly have rather differing definitions of a landslide. In percentage of votes cast, it wasn't.

It was after that the UK government declared war on the coal miners.
Unfortunately for you, I was here and I've read more about the period than you have, and am better informed. The Tory government began encouraging the National Coal Board to start overproducing in 1981, and the electricity generators to begin stockpiling. That's the year BEFORE the Falklands' War, and some time before the Miners' Strike.

Grandmothers and egg sucking come to mind.

Feel free to check the figures yourself. Labour won the 1945 election with a 'landslide' of under 50% of the votes cast. Same in 1950. In 1951 it lost to the Conservatives, despite getting almost 1% more votes.
