I save 15% for retirement and 6% for other stuff (new car fund, vacation fund, etc...) the rest gets spent.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Right now I am not over 100%, but last year I was often over 100%.

I don't spend consistent amounts. Some months, I will barely spend 10% of my gains. This month, I made a rather large purchase. In the last two years, I've probably spent a little more than half of what I've made... saving the rest. I have no debts. Property is paid. My bills montly bills don't exceed $100.
Sustainability
I put 50% just because that feels right.To us, it is the BEAST.

We spend somewhat less than 50% of my take-home money each month. I have no idea how much my wife adds to this amount from her own salary. This sum covers utilities, food and clothing. It doesn't cover irregular expenses like gadgets, furniture, education, vacations, gym membership etc.Graffiti in a public toilet
