In case anyone is still in denial about the Simcity store just follow those links where they show various building types for sale. For instance just being able to build a marina in your stupid tiny city will cost you $15 in real live money and you just know they plan to do that for each and every single little building improvement. You can look forward to pay $500 just to get the full version of the game.
Personally, the sooner this game is hacked and this sort of profiteering ended, the happier I am. There are few things I like to see more than extreme greed punished.

OK. I doubted for a few days to buy this game but no money from me. I will wait for another clone of SC.
Hate to interrupt the circlejerk, but whoever posted that imgur link of the product description deleted his account. It's completely unverified. $15 for one building will never happen.
XCOM has DLC. Why didn't you ***** and moan about that? Why are you instead *****ing and moaning about a placeholder price and artwork and product description allegedly lifted from the bowels of Origin's server?
It's a serious question. What the hell is your motivation for this hate spree? What secondary gain do you get from this?
I've got almost 800k in this city. I messed up on the layout. The space between roads is a hair too small, preventing some buildings from upgrading. I have a ridiculous amount of homeless and criminals, but very little crime.

EA's approach to DLC, especially when one looks at The Sims franchise, is... considerably different from X-Com or most other games.
As to what I get from this hate spree? I just enjoy being right. It is much better than the alternative.

Yeah $7 for one scripted mission and a chink character skin is really considerably different from The Sims, which does the same thing with just dozens of chinky missions and chinky character skins that are all equally useless.
No, you enjoy rationalizing and bad mouthing something you have never played because you like to pretend you stand on principle. What is so sad is that the principle you stand on is not something noble like liberty, or social good, but that "always-on DRM is wrong." You are an embarrassment.

I have stated repeatedly that my distaste for the whole scenario goes far deeper than "always-on DRM is wrong." You can say that as often as you want, it won't make it true.
My major problem with it - other than the stuff that's completely broken - is that the game is no longer customizable because of this artificial need to have leaderboards that put everyone on a level playing field. I remember in SC2K I would have as much fun figuring out the best way to terraform the landscape I did actually playing the game because it added an extra layer of decision making. Yet that's somehow no longer fair, everybody has to play the same maps...but isn't understanding the system well enough to properly terraform part of the gameplay too? Not any more, apparently. Why can't I turn off disasters? Same reasoning, everybody has to play the same conditions for the leaderboard. And if I don't care about the leaderboard, well, too bad, I still don't get to play the game I want to play. Even something as simple as difficulty levels...nope, sorry.
It's more of this same attitude that it's no longer enough to compete against a system, you have to compete against other people...the idea that if I'm going to win somebody else has to lose, and there will always be a winner and a loser. It's like (in a completely different field) when Ninja Warrior was Americanized. In Japan the contestants had no problem with the idea that it was them against the course. In the US, it's the contestant against each other and the course is just what they happen to be competing at. SimCity used to be the former, now it's the latter. That's the baseline betrayal of the franchise in this version. Without that need there would be no reason to try to level the playing field and we could all just play the game as we see fit.

Don't get me started on that. Such a disgrace!
Americans ruin everything. Ninja Warrior was ****ing fantastic. Now it's just some reality show bull****.
Everything "social" they did with simcity is terrible. They dumbed the game down to the point where it's basically a facebook game with better graphics. The city sizes are small because they want casual players to not feel overwhelmed. Most of those idiots are only going to spend a few hours on a city. They don't want a rich, deep game experience.
I think that kind of game has it's place, but as a separate entity... like Simcity Online or something. Let the casual fans have their stupid little game. Give the serious players a good game.
