Truth be told, I don't mind playing the game that is honest about such things. I know it's because of the city size. I'm even fine with that. Just be honest about it from the beginning!

The more I learn about what is really going on with the game mechanics and whatnot, the more I think the "failure" of Sim City was all a giant marketing/PR problem.

Just fire all those people, be honest about the game, fix the actual bugs... and we're good.
I can respect that position. Much of the backlash has been a result of blatant lies told by EA marketing and the Maxis developers.

    • This video shows what I mentioned earlier - Sims drive to the nearest home in a big blob until it's filled, at which point they turn around.

This isn't as upsetting as it appears. For one thing, dead ends are bad design. For another, as soon as the house is fulled, all agents generated afterwards no longer tried to "flood" that road like unintelligent sewage or power agents would. But it goes a long way to explaining how the game punishes certain layouts. But in a patch, they should (as a commenter notes) reserve spots for agents in the future.

I wonder if they can change this so that the subsequent agents "know" that the first guy is going to get that house... so they don't all try to go get it while the guy is en route.

I wonder why they didn't think of that in the first place.

Who knows? I don't know the size of the dev-team. It seems like they had a serious case of group-think on their hands.

            • All the agent AI right now occurs when they are generated, likely for performance reasons. If theres a backup on a street, new agents with path around it, while others stupidly avoid other options.

Do all the buildings (of a type) release their agents all at once at a given time, or is it staggered in some way?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Certain things happen at certain times... like garbage pick up in the morning

But when school or work is out, the doors open releasing a flood of people.

Shopping is kinda random. I saw a guy getting a burger at 6:30 AM

They should stagger both the buildings and the people leaving them. That would be more realistic, especially industrial.
